YMCA Swansea recognises Inspirational Members, Past and Present

On Friday, 25th November YMCA Swansea honoured the late David Thomas Hopkins by erecting a plaque at the YMCA building. David was an Honorary Life Member of YMCA Swansea for 50 years, having bought international recognition to the organisation in both football and cricket. David sadly passed away last June and the family and YMCA wanted to recognise the contribution he made by erecting a memorial.

Young Persons Champion from YMCA Swansea celebrates win at national youth charity awards

An inspiring young person from YMCA Swansea, Carlie Torlop, has beaten off competition to be crowned Young Worker of the Year at the charity’s national youth awards last Friday night, 4th November. There was further cause for celebration as the organisation was also a finalist in two other categories, the prestigious ‘YMCA of the Year Award’ and Ashleigh Cullen was recognised for her inspirational work as a ‘Young Leader’.


Continuation of Support for Swansea Young Carers Secured by YMCA Swansea

YMCA Swansea has been able to secure and take over the Swansea Young Carers Project, previously run by Carers Trust Swansea Bay, Crossroads Care Service who went into administration last week. Swansea Young Carers Project, funded by Families First, will now be managed by YMCA Swansea.

Four years on from London 2012, young people in Swansea and across the UK are harnessing the power of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, turning inspiration into action within their local communities.

Over 500 community projects have taken place across the UK in the run up to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games showcasing the work of more than 18,500 young people ‘Action Leads’ aged 14-19 who are working to make their communities better and healthier places to live. It’s all part of Get Set for Community Action, a year-long UK-wide programme created by the British Olympic Foundation and British Paralympic Association, made possible thanks to a £2.1 million award from the Big Lottery Fund.
